Focal Point has a New Line of Signature Camera Bags!

I want to start this story by confessing that I am more than a bag enthusiast. I love a good bag. I love finding a new bag and learning its story and really diving into what makes it great, or not so great. My husband has put up with my bag addiction for almost 30 years, god love him! About a year and ½ ago while shopping in downtown Portland, we discovered a very cool tote bag in a shop near the Pearl District. It was beautiful! Needing to know more, I inquired about the story behind this amazing bag. You know, there is always a story!
Nick Wheeler, owner of the Wheeler Bag Company started sewing when he was quite young. He learned this trait from his Dad, who owned a canvas shop and worked out of their home. Nick has been making bags for literally everything for most of his life. I found Nick and his best buddy, Luna in downtown Astoria, OR. (Yes, I went to Astoria to meet the maker of that amazing tote). His studio was just big enough for his supplies and his sewing machine. Immediately, I knew he understood what went into an amazing bag and why it needed to be made the way he made them. From start to finish, each bag has Nick’s passion and craftsmanship built into it. From the signature lining inside the bag to the specific hardware he uses, and the leather that holds it all together. It’s the complete package.
It wasn’t until I was on my way back home with 2 new bags I just had to have that I was going to have to explain to my husband, that I realized Nick was the answer to my lifelong dream of designing and creating my own bag: the perfect camera bag.
After discussing my amazing idea with Mike and Nate, and getting the green light, I called Nick and proposed my idea. Without hesitation, he was in! After a couple more trips to Astoria, several additional measurements, many other adjustments and tweaks, two prototypes and just over a year later, Focal Point Photography has its very own exclusive Wheeler Bag.
